Alexandra Morton

Internationally acclaimed scientist and author Alexandra Morton's childhood dream was to study animals. This led her to research killer whale communication in the natural home of the Northern Resident pod of B.C., the Broughton Archipelago. In addition to her scientific work on cetacean language, Alexandra has published popular books. They include Siwiti: A Whale's Story for children and the beloved Listening to Whales: What the Orcas Have Taught Us for adults. She has published articles in prominent magazines including Smithsonian, Equinox, BBC Wildlife, Earth Island Institute and Canadian Geographic.

Alexandra is the founder of Raincoast Research Society and is conducting research on pacific white-sided dolphins, and on the connection between sea lice infestations in wild salmon and the situation of salmon farms with open net pens. Alexandra and her work have been featured on ABC and CBS television, the BBC, the CBC, the Discovery Channel and the French public television network. She lives in the Broughton Archipelago with her daughter.
